Palestine Community Unit School District #3 is committed to providing a high-quality educational program for your child. We are working hard to provide programs to help all students succeed in our school district. We receive Title 1 funds to provide additional help for students in Grades 1-4 who struggle in reading and for tutoring in other subjects.

 

Unfortunately, Palestine Grade School did not meet the absurdly high State expectations that are required by the federal Department of Education under “No Child Left Behind” these past three years. Therefore, we are required to provide public school choice for our students. This means that your student may transfer to another public school. At this time, none of our neighboring districts is willing to receive our students. In fact, because the State standards are exceedingly high, our neighboring districts are also failing to meet them.

 

If you would like to be involved in a committee or organization designed to promote education in the Grade School, please contact the office. There are three active groups:

  1. Palestine Grade School Improvement Committee
  2. Palestine Grade School Title 1 Parent Committee
  3. Palestine Grade School Parent/Teacher Organization

Description

Elementary and Secondary Education Act

A district must offer public school choice when a school is identified for improvement [20 U.S.C. §§6316(b)(1)(E) and 6316(b)(5)]; for corrective action [§6316(b)(7)]; or for restructuring [§6316(b)(8)].

A district must seek cooperative agreements with other neighboring districts if there are no available choice recipient schools within the district. 20 U.S.C. §6316(b)(11).

A request to transfer a student pursuant to choice provisions should be made at least 30 days before the first day of the school year. 105 ILCS 5/10-21.3a.

Description

  1. a.Offer SES when a school is identified for improvement [20 U.S.C. §6316(b)(5)]; for corrective action [§6316(b)(7)]; or restructuring [§6316(b)8)].
  2. b.Notify eligible students’ parents/guardians of the availability of SES. 20 U.S.C. §6316(e)(2)(A).
  3. c.Enter into an agreement with a provider. 20 U.S.C. §6316(e)(3).
  4. d.Evaluate SES providers’ services. 20 U.S.C. §6316(e)(2).
  5. e.Protect the privacy of students who receive SES. 20 U.S.C. §6316(e)(2)(D).
